We started The Design Practice in 1994 which makes us a sprightly 21 years old this year!
Operating initially from the Ashford area, we've changed quite a bit in the past two decades (more wrinkles and less hair!) but have been fortunate enough to retain a wonderful array of clients who keep us very busy to this day.
We are a small team (which helps us keep costs low) but what we lack in size, we make up for in experience. We also have the flexibility to be able to accommodate all manner of design and deadlines that come our way.
Today, we are based in the beautiful surroundings of Springfield House in Maidstone and are led by award-winning designer John Devlin who took over the company in 2011.
Born in Essex, John's background was originally in the London record industry before returning to college as a mature student and completing his design degree at The Kent Institute of Art & Design in 2001.
As well as leading all design projects and guiding the company towards bigger and better things, John is also one of the country's leading experts in football kit design and has written two internationally published books on the subject for London publishers A&C Black. He is regularly called upon to comment on design issues relating to sportswear on radio and in the press.
John is hugely passionate about design and the potential it offers for change.
An avid reader of both design history and current trends and innovations, John offers an empathic and personal response to his work. A lover of art, there is nothing John likes more than a wander around London galleries and markets looking for inspiration and ideas.
