As long term admirers of The Aspinall Foundation and the great work they do for animal conservation worldwide we were thrilled to be asked to work on a celebratory photographic book, A Life with Animals, commemorating the foundation and the lives of John and Damian Aspinall.
The Aspinall's relationship with the animals they care for in their famous parks at Port Lympne and Howletts is truly extraordinary. The book's aim was to illustrate this and to communicate the importance and integrity of their programme of reintroducing animals to their natural environments.
The core of the book was the amazing library of photographs taken by the parks' resident photographer David Rolfe, a man of incredible talent. Deciding on the format and construction of the book we set about deciding on content, defining chapters and selecting from the hundreds of photos at our disposal. Consise and informative text was supplied by Lisa Mendes who also interviewed key people behind The Aspinall Foundation, including Damian Aspinall.
We brought the whole 180 page hardback book together, carefully considering the pace of the photographs and attempting to tell a cohesive story via the stunning pictures we had at our disposal.
The reaction to the book has been incredibly pleasing to see and we are delighted with the end result that we feel accurately and entertainingly tells the story of this incredible family and their legacy.
